The shoes are operated by two 1in diameter wheel cylinders of simple construction, located diametrically opposite each other on the back plate. The rear Girling drum brakes fitted to all DB2 and DB2/4 MkI cars up to Chassis Number 1200 are 12in x 1.656in. Later MkII's from 1201 onwards have 12in x 1 3/4in, hydraulic non-servo, sliding shoe, with internal handbrake mechanism. These shoes are hydraulically operated by a hydraulic wheel cylinder, which consists of a die cast aluminum housing, two pistons complete with dust covers's, seals, bakelite seal retainers and retaining spring.
